Just the beggining
When I was young reading and writing was never really interesting to me. The thought of going home and sitting there reading books to fill my class reading log was awful. I even remember trying to forge my moms signature to try to get out of it. My parents took turns daily tying to teach me how to read, but it never worked. Since I finished kindergarten without knowing how to read, I was put into a summer reading program. Being illiterate was caused by my lack of desire, and I suffered from it in the future. Trying to learn to read day in and day out in a room as hot as a sauna was not making it any easier on me. After a tough summer of taking these reading classes I then learned how to read, enough to get my by for the time being. Little did I know literacy is something so active and diverse that it is constantly being influenced by different source materials and situations.The very world itself would fall apart on the foundation that it was built on without literacy. The turning point in my literacy skills came later on in my life through encouragment from my girlfriend and influence followed by the example set by my older brother Brian.

During the summer program as a child, I practiced the alphabet and learn to read books and write at the first grade level. Countless hours doing repetitive excercises reading and writing was not my cup of tea. Although I had learned to read and write I still never had an interest in reading and writing. Instead of focusing on my homework, I usually preffered playing video games and going out to play basketball with my older brothers and kids from the neighborhood. I struggled my whole childhood through Elementary ,Middle, and High school. I remember feeling like my life was over when it came time to write an essay, I could already hear my mother and fathers voice in my head as I recieved a big fat F on my paper.
