The banks base their sanctioning decision on the soundest possible plan and its financial forecast. Without computers one would have to work very hard to project the real balance sheet manually. The business forecast depends upon many factors which can be simultaneously taken care of by a computer while calculating the profit - loss sheets. However, with the manual method this is a cumbersome process which allows a lot of scope for mistakes.
